Photographer Larry Turner was hired by Hiram Walker – Gooderham & Worts in the 1980s to document the G&W distillery site in Toronto. Here is a selection from his extremely rare colour interiors and his black and white exteriors. The interiors are grouped by building. Larry Turner’s photographs of the Stone Distillery and nearby buildings include some of the only interior images of the distillery when it was still in use. By the mid-1980s, however, some of the functions had been shut down and various spaces emptied of their original equipment. For example, distilling whisky stopped in 1957, which resulted in the mill (Building 3) halting activity and mashing (Building 5) being discontinued. But since rum and industrial alcohol were still being produced, the fermenting cellar remained in use.
