Condenseurs en 1917

Machines were not only repaired, but also redesigned on site. For example, during the Great War, Chief Engineer E. Metcalfe Shaw designed an “improved cooler” to replace the distillery’s old ones. According to British Acetones manager, Col. Albert E. Gooderham, Shaw proved to be a “genius” in inventing heating and cooling apparatus used throughout the site. BA’s excellent, but anonymous, photographer often captured abstract patterns inherent in his subjects.
