Artefact 5-1-3

Originally located on the first floor of the Stone Distillery, this scale and scale tank were used to measure stinky “fusel oil” extracted during the distillation process. The classically elegant scale was manufactured by Fairbanks around 1909 and the riveted copper tank was probably made by Gooderham & Worts coppersmiths.

Situées à l’origine au premier étage du bâtiment Stone Distillery, cette balance et sa cuve servaient à mesurer le malodorant fusel extrait durant la distillation. L’élégante balance a été fabriquée par Fairbanks vers 1909 et la cuve de cuivre rivetée a été probablement fabriquée par les chaudronniers sur cuivre de Gooderham & Worts.

This very rare photograph from the 1938 Alcohol in Industry shows a Denaturing Room worker weighing alcohol on Tank Scale 17 in the scale loft.

Il s’agit d’une rare représentation du pesage de l’alcool contenu dans le réservoir de la balance 17 situé dans l’aire surplombant la salle de dénaturation (Denaturing Room). Cette photographie provient de « Alcohol in Industry » (L’alcool dans l’industrie) publié en 1938.
