Around 1939, a great hulking, riveted-steel tank for storing molasses was inserted into Building 9, half-inside and half-outside the building. In 1997, photographer Steven Evans stood at the bottom of the almost pitch-black tank to capture this dramatic view of the steel-framed ceiling 40-feet overhead.

Today, a section of the actual molasses tank can be seen at 14 Distillery Lane. And the location of the tank is physically “represented” by the cylindrical portion of a new building located above the heritage base of the 39 Parliament Street condo on the south side of Grist Mill Lane.

Vers 1939, on construisit un énorme et disgracieux réservoir de plaques d’acier rivetées pour entreposer la mélasse. Ce réservoir fut “incrusté” dans le Bâtiment 9, moitié à l’intérieur, moitié à l’extérieur. En 1997, le photographe Steven Evans descendit au fond du réservoir dans la noirceur presque totale pour prendre cette superbe photographie du plafond et de son armature en acier qui le dominait 40 pieds plus haut.

Aujourd’hui on peut voir une section du réservoir au 14 de l’allée Distillery. L’endroit où était situé ce réservoir est marqué par une petite partie arrondie d’un bâtiment récemment construit – l’immeuble du 39 rue Parliament – dont la base a conservé l’ancienne facade de briques rouges, visible sur côté sud de l’allée Grist Mill.
