In 1860, the word “elevator” meant something completely different from the vertical people-mover we imagine today. For nearly a century, grain was lifted by “bucket elevators” composed of small copper buckets attached to a leather belt running through wooden shafts from the ground to the top floor of the mill.

Pendant presque un siècle, les grains montaient du rez-de-chaussée jusqu’au dernier étage du moulin dans de petits godets de cuivre attachés à une courroie de cuir qui se déplaçait à l’intérieur de conduits de bois.
